Bills Safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson Suspended One Game for Spitting
NFL suspends Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson one game without pay for spitting during a Week 6 victory against the Las Vegas Raiders.
POLICY WIRE — Buffalo, United States — Buffalo Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson is facing a one-game suspension without pay following his ejection from Sunday’s matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
League officials penalized and disqualified Gardner-Johnson late in the first half after television cameras captured him spitting toward Raiders players during the contest. The incident occurred as Buffalo secured a narrow 33-30 victory over Las Vegas.
According to the NFL, the defensive back violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which prohibits any act contrary to the generally understood principles of sportsmanship. The unsportsmanlike conduct targeted Las Vegas tight end Brock Bowers and center Tyler Linderbaum.
The disciplinary decision arrived swiftly on Monday as the league reviewed the fallout from the Week 6 encounter. Gardner-Johnson’s controversial exit adds a turbulent chapter to the early stages of his 2026 season with the Bills.
