Trump Backs Netanyahu for Reelection as Israeli Voters Head to Polls
President Trump officially endorses Benjamin Netanyahu for reelection, citing his partnership on Iran as Israel prepares for its October 27 national vote.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — President Trump issued a formal endorsement of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, throwing his weight behind the leader’s reelection campaign.
In a post shared on Truth Social, the former president praised Netanyahu as a Great Warrior Prime Minister and a vital ally in the ongoing efforts to counter the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The endorsement serves as a significant political advantage for Netanyahu, given Trump’s enduring popularity among Israeli voters. The move follows a period of months where the American leader had refrained from offering his support as the two nations navigated differing strategic approaches in the Middle East.
Netanyahu currently leads the most nationalist and far-right administration in the history of Israel. His government is navigating intense domestic scrutiny regarding security lapses, alongside global condemnation concerning the treatment of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, with some cabinet members identified as settlers.
Defending the Prime Minister against his detractors, Trump wrote that Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself. Despite all of that, he has endured and, in fact, he has thrived!
Netanyahu responded to the gesture on X, expressing gratitude for the tremendous support and the joint work between the two leaders. He added that together they would complete the mission.
The upcoming national election, scheduled for October 27, marks the first time Israeli citizens will head to the polls since the Hamas attack on Israel in 2023.
