South African President Cyril Ramaphosa lifts the suspension of Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola following the formal withdrawal of corruption charges.
POLICY WIRE — Johannesburg, South Africa — South African President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Friday that he is officially lifting the precautionary suspension of National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola.
The decision comes six months after Masemola was initially suspended from his post following allegations linking him to a 20-million-dollar health tender scandal and accusations of flouting procurement laws.
According to the presidency, Masemola is set to formally resume his full leadership duties heading the South African Police Service on Monday, October 19, 2026.
His return to office was cleared after prosecutors officially withdrew all criminal and public finance corruption charges against the top law enforcement official.
