A former British Army chef has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for possessing homemade explosives and firearms linked to extremist ideology.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — A former British Army chef has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison following his conviction for possessing a homemade firearm and explosive materials.
Mark Broadhurst, 28, was taken into custody in September 2024 at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire. Subsequent searches of his residence in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, uncovered a cache of weaponry and explosive substances.
Authorities determined that Broadhurst was driven by extreme right-wing ideology. During the investigation, evidence emerged that he had discussed the formation of a militia.
Although Broadhurst contested the assertion that the items were intended for terrorist purposes, a judge ruled that his criminal activities were indeed connected to terrorism.
