Greta Gerwig Unveils First Glimpse of Netflix’s ‘Narnia’ Epic
Greta Gerwig debuts 'Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew' trailer, blending faith and spectacle for a wide theatrical release.
POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — Greta Gerwig has revealed the first look at her upcoming film adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew,’ marking a bold cinematic venture for Netflix that blends spiritual storytelling with grand visual spectacle.
The film, set to debut in theaters on February 12, 2027, and available on Netflix in April, is Gerwig’s most ambitious project yet. With a budget of $280 million, it diverges from the original ‘Narnia’ series by starting with the prequel, ‘The Magician’s Nephew,’ which explores the creation of Narnia through the eyes of two children.
Gerwig, known for her work on ‘Barbie,’ described the story as a spiritual journey and chose Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven” for the trailer, a decision she said resonated with the heart of the narrative. The film features Meryl Streep as Aslan, sparking some debate among fans and critics alike.
