Gold Slides as Dollar Strength and Inflation Data Weigh on Markets
Gold prices dip as dollar holds strong; traders watch US inflation data for Fed rate clues.
POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — Gold prices declined on Tuesday as the U.S. dollar maintained its strength, with market participants closely monitoring upcoming inflation data for insights into the Federal Reserve’s potential interest-rate decisions.
The benchmark spot gold price fell 0.2% to $4,164.45 per ounce by 0201 GMT, following a one-week high recorded the previous day. Meanwhile, December gold futures slipped 0.1% to $4,187.90, reflecting broader market sentiment.
A stronger dollar makes gold less attractive for holders of other currencies, as it increases the cost of the metal in foreign markets. Investors are now turning their attention to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) report due on Wednesday and the Producer Price Index (PPI) release on Thursday, which could shape expectations for future monetary policy moves.
