Fugitive Businessman Taken Into U.S. Custody in Venezuela Bribery Case
U.S. authorities arrest Alvaro Pulido, linked to Venezuela's corruption scandal, as part of ongoing investigation into bribes and state contracts.
POLICY WIRE — Miami, United States — A fugitive businessman accused of paying bribes to top Venezuelan officials in exchange for lucrative state contracts has been taken into U.S. custody.
Alvaro Pulido, who was indicted in Miami federal court in 2019 and again in 2021, was arrested following an investigation by the DEA, FBI, and Homeland Security Investigations. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and State Department had offered a reward of up to $10 million for information leading to his arrest.
Venezuelan authorities have remained silent on the arrest, highlighting the political challenges faced by acting President Delcy Rodríguez in balancing relations with the Trump administration. Pulido was previously detained in Venezuela in 2023 during a crackdown on corruption within state-run oil company PDVSA.
