Glucksmann Secures Center-Left Nomination for France’s 2027 Presidential Race
Raphaël Glucksmann wins center-left primary with 66% of votes, positioning as main left alternative to hard-left leader.
POLICY WIRE — Paris, France — Raphaël Glucksmann, a European Parliament member and leader of the Place publique party, has secured the center-left nomination for France’s 2027 presidential election after capturing 66.17% of the vote in the first round of the primary.
The contest saw over 120,787 participants, marking a significant turnout that organizers described as a strong indicator of the left’s unity. Glucksmann outpaced Socialist Party chief Olivier Faure, who received 14% of the vote, and Ségolène Royal, a former presidential candidate, who finished third with less than 8%.
Two other candidates, Jérôme Guedj and Emmanuel Maurel, each garnered nearly 6% of the votes. Glucksmann emphasized the significance of the result, stating that a left committed to its values can unite, govern, and win. The primary, which faced delays due to a cyberattack, concluded on Sunday after being extended to 6 p.m.
