Ofgem Nears Finalizing Jarvis as Permanent Chief Executive
Ofgem moves closer to appointing Tim Jarvis as permanent CEO, with interim leadership set to end soon.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — The UK’s energy regulator, Ofgem, is nearing the final stages of appointing Tim Jarvis as its permanent chief executive, following his interim leadership since March 2026.
Jarvis has served as interim CEO for seven months and is currently the Director General for Markets at Ofgem. Before joining the energy watchdog, he held roles at HM Treasury, the Department for Business, Energy and Industry Strategy, and the Competition and Markets Authority, bringing over two decades of experience in policy and regulation.

Jonathan Brearley, who has led Ofgem since February 2020, will transition to a new role as permanent secretary at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. Ofgem’s board plans to begin a formal search for a permanent successor, but Jarvis will continue as acting CEO until a replacement is named.
