The storm has already claimed at least one life in Brooklyn, where a 56-year-old New York City Housing Department employee was struck by a falling tree. Another person is missing after going missing while swimming at a Fire Island beach. Tens of thousands of residents across the Northeast lost power, with over 40,000 in New York and 30,000 in Connecticut without electricity. Governors Kathy Hochul and Mikie Sherrill have declared states of emergency in affected regions as the storm moves inland.
