The incidents occurred three hours apart at two locations approximately a mile and a half apart in Exeter. The victims included Anthony Payne, 80, and identical twins Dick and Roger Carter, 84, all of whom were killed by Alexander Lewis-Ranwell, now 35.

Lewis-Ranwell used a hammer and shovel in the attacks, which took place on 10 February 2019. The inquests have confirmed that the assailant acted alone and committed the crimes in what witnesses described as frenzied attacks.
