POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Postal Service has halted development of a computer system that was at the heart of President Donald Trump’s attempt to limit mail voting, according to Postmaster General David Steiner.

Steiner told The Associated Press that an injunction has prevented any further work on the project, which was part of an executive order aimed at implementing strict voter verification processes for mail ballots.

The system would have required states to use standardized envelopes with barcodes and relied on citizenship lists provided by federal agencies. However, the Supreme Court rejected the executive order this week, leading to the suspension of the project.
