France’s CEA and Alice & Bob Launch Quantum-Computing Software Collaboration

POLICY WIRE — Paris, France — France’s national Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) has joined forces with quantum computing startup Alice & Bob to develop advanced software that integrates quantum and classical supercomputers. The partnership is focused on enhancing the Qaptiva platform, which supports research in materials physics and aims to strengthen the country’s quantum industry.

The collaboration follows recent developments in France’s National Quantum Strategy, announced by the President of the French Republic at the CEA’s Très Grand Centre de Calcul (TGCC) on May 22. On June 17, during VivaTech, GENCI signed a contract for the first quantum computer built using cat qubit technology, an 18-qubit system from Alice & Bob. This machine will be installed at the TGCC facility and connected to the Joliot-Curie supercomputer.

Alice & Bob has selected Bull as the software integrator for its first commercial quantum system, set for deployment at the CEA’s high-performance computing center. The system is expected to become available to researchers in 2027. Chloé Poisbeau, COO of Alice & Bob, emphasized the significance of this step in advancing quantum computing capabilities in France.
