India's unemployment rate drops to 5% in August, a six-month low, as rural joblessness declines sharply.
POLICY WIRE — New Delhi, India — India’s unemployment rate fell to 5% in August, marking the lowest level in six months, according to official government data released on Tuesday.
The figure, which surpassed economists’ expectations of 5.2%, reflects a slight decline from 5.1% in July. The drop was largely attributed to improved conditions in rural areas, where unemployment dropped to 4.1% from 4.3% in the previous month.
