People in Gaza are losing hope more quickly than they are dying at the moment. Across damaged streets, long queues of hungry families wait for meals that might never come. Mothers are clinging to their children with weary, vacant eyes. Once-household and employed fathers now look for bread. This isn’t a history lesson. Now it’s occurring. The world is silently observing.
Gaza Genocide:
Israel has been waging a large military campaign in Gaza since October 2023 in response to a devastating Hamas attack. However, what started as a fight against terrorism has turned into a war on citizens. The majority of the more than 54,000 Palestinians murdered were women and children, according to Gaza’s Medical Ministry. There have been demolished homes, schools, and hospitals. Neighborhoods have been destroyed. The bombs are still dropping. It claims to be battling Hamas. It is the inhabitants who suffer the most, those who are stuck in Gaza with nowhere to go. The military is not the only force involved. It is the agonizing and gradual annihilation of a population.
People are not battling for power or politics in northern Gaza. Their struggle is for survival. There is a risk of starvation for more than two million people, according to the United Nations World Food Program. For hours or even days, many people travel to get to locations where relief could be supplied. In their arms, mothers hold their children, yearning for clean water or wheat. Even aid deliveries, however, are risky. There have been several attacks. People are blocked. Hunger has turned Gaza into a war.
The health care system has fallen apart. Al-Awda Hospital, the last operational hospital in northern Gaza, had to close a few days ago. There were no more physicians, no medication, and no electricity. The World Health Organization reports that 95% of Gaza’s hospitals are currently closed. Finding pure water is almost impossible. Approximately 1.7 million individuals, or three out of four, have had to flee their homes. They now reside in tents among disease, dust, and hopelessness. When the world loses interest in war, it looks like this. When hospitals are targeted and food is used as a weapon, we have to ask: Where is our humanity?
So, who’s allowing this to occur? It’s an obvious response. Not just Israel is affected. Among the most powerful nations in the world are the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and others. According to Reuters and The New York Times, the United States continues to supply Israel with money and weaponry, including thousands of bombs. Despite expressing “concern,” European leaders continue to trade and provide arms to Israel. Germany is the second-largest supplier of weapons to Israel, providing cutting-edge submarines and military hardware.
While aiding in the destruction of Gaza, how can these nations claim to be human rights advocates? If they finance jets that bomb refugee camps, how can they promote democracy? Who will stop Israel if not these global powers? If no one intervenes today, what will prevent others from doing the same tomorrow?
Gaza is more than a conflict zone. It serves as a global warning. International law is meaningless if this much suffering can go unpunished and if so many innocent people may perish while no one speaks. If Gaza can experience this, then anyplace can. And it might be worse the next time. Benjamin Netanyahu, the prime minister of Israel, has stated his objectives clearly. His goal goes beyond simply defeating Hamas. He is attempting to permanently alter Gaza. Entire cities have been levelled by his rule. Aid workers and journalists have also been killed. Bombs have been dropped on cemeteries. It’s not “self-defense” here. “Fighting terrorism” is not what this is. According to international law, collective punishment constitutes a war crime.
Netanyahu is nevertheless viewed as a collaborator by many Western countries. His hand is shaking. They sign contracts. They have weapons. The oppressor of Gaza gets praised as Gaza suffers. Additionally, women, kids, and elderly individuals who are buried behind debris are suffering the price. Everyone needs to wake up. It is only the beginning; Gaza is not the end. If this devastation continues unchecked, other countries will realize that they, too, can bomb, starve, and uproot people without being held accountable. If international leaders continue to disregard the law, it will eventually disappear. Peace is not something that just happens. It has to be safeguarded. And it is currently dying in Gaza.
This sorrow is not limited to Palestinians. It’s a tragedy of humanity. This evil is made possible by every politician who remains silent, every media source that turns a blind eye, and every individual who claims that “it’s too complicated.” When the time comes, it will be too late if the world does not stand up now. Gaza’s harm won’t end at its boundaries. Generations will be affected by the injustice, the trauma, and the rage. And the responsibility will be shared by those who remained silent.
Everyone has to take action right away. Superpowers must call for accountability for war crimes, a permanent truce, and unrestricted access to humanitarian relief. Gazans require more than just food and medication. They require justice. They must be protected. They must be allowed to live fearlessly.
Everyone must ask themselves what they will stand for tomorrow if they are unable to support Gaza today.
