Ambassador Danny Danon criticized Mamdani for labeling Netanyahu a “war criminal” and demanding his arrest, calling it a political move. The mayor later retracted the statement, as New York lacks legal authority to detain the Israeli leader.

The International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against Netanyahu in November 2024, accusing him of crimes against humanity related to the Gaza conflict.
