Patrick Sullivan, who was feeding his infant son at 3 a.m., initially thought the noise was from a neighbor. However, it turned out to be a wild bear that had gotten inside the vehicle. The incident is one of many this summer as black bears face food shortages due to drought in the Rocky Mountains.
The lack of natural food sources like nuts, berries, and plants has forced bears to search for sustenance in populated areas. Wildlife officials have reported a significant increase in bear sightings and conflicts with humans this year, with some bears venturing far beyond their usual habitats. In response, authorities have relocated or euthanized several bears that pose a threat to people.
