POLICY WIRE — New York, United States — Former President Donald Trump has proposed renaming the U.S. state of New Mexico to New America, according to a Truth Social post he published Sunday during the holiday weekend.

The post featured a modified map of the southwestern state with the word “Mexico” crossed out and replaced by America, signaling his latest effort to relabel American geography.

This proposal follows three prior executive orders signed during Trump’s second term: one in January 2025 that renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America; another in the same month that reverted Denali in Alaska back to Mount McKinley; and a third issued late last month that changed Lake Ontario to Lake Ameria.

The Lake Ameria order coincided with an intensifying trade dispute between the United States and Canada.
