POLICY WIRE — La Paz, Bolivia — A catastrophic explosion at a military installation in the municipality of Viacha has resulted in at least 10 deaths and left dozens of others injured.

The blast occurred on Friday, September 4, at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time (1830 GMT).

Official reports indicate that more than 60 individuals sustained injuries during the incident.

According to local authorities, the explosion took place within a section of the army barracks specifically designated for the storage of pyrotechnic materials.

The facility is located in the western city of Viacha, situated roughly 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the capital city of La Paz.
