POLICY WIRE — Middlesbrough, UK — A number of schools in Middlesbrough are scheduled to dismiss students early this Friday to prioritize pupil safety during the funeral of Jakub Matusiak.
Matusiak, 23, was one of five young men who lost their lives in a head-on, wrong-way collision on the A66.
Four local educational institutions have confirmed the early closures as the community prepares for the first funeral service related to the tragedy.
Officials expect large crowds to gather in the area, which is likely to result in significant traffic disruption and congestion.
One of the affected schools stated that the decision to close early was made “to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils”.
