Tiger Woods Pleads No Contest to Reckless Driving Following Florida Rollover Crash

POLICY WIRE — Stuart, USA — Tiger Woods entered a no-contest plea on Wednesday for a reckless driving charge related to a rollover accident that occurred near his Florida residence in March.

The golfer appeared before County Judge Darren Steele at the Martin County Courthouse, where he accepted the reduced charge. As a result, the judge mandated a five-year suspension of his driving privileges.

Woods, 50, remained largely silent during the proceedings. He was accompanied to the hearing by his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, the former daughter-in-law of Donald Trump, who sat behind him in the courtroom.

Court records indicate that Woods also pleaded no contest to a charge for refusing to undergo testing, for which he was ordered to pay court costs.

While a no-contest plea does not constitute an admission of guilt, it signifies that the defendant will not present a defense and is treated as a conviction within the criminal justice system.

The legal issues stem from an incident on Jupiter Island, where Woods’ SUV struck a truck and flipped onto its side on a residential road by the beach.

According to a sheriff’s report, deputies observed signs of impairment and discovered two pain medications in the golfer’s pocket.

Although a Breathalyzer test returned a negative result, Woods declined to provide a urine sample. He had previously entered a not-guilty plea regarding the initial DUI charge.

Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported for Woods or the other driver. However, a police report noted that the truck sustained $5,000 in damages caused by Woods’ Land Rover.

Woods informed a deputy at the time that he had been adjusting his radio and looking at his mobile phone when the collision occurred.

The legendary golfer’s career has been hampered by a series of knee and back surgeries, as well as struggles with pain medication and previous automotive accidents.

This incident marks the fourth crash involving Woods. He stepped away from professional tournament play following a 2009 accident and again after this most recent crash.

Court documents reveal that Woods traveled outside the U.S. to receive care at an inpatient treatment center.

His first public outing after completing treatment took place on June 23, where he presented the PGA Tour’s updated 2028 schedule. He has maintained his role as chairman of the tour’s Future Competition Committee despite the arrest.

Newly released footage from the time of the arrest shows Woods in the rear of a police vehicle, appearing to nod off and hiccup.

Woods departed the courthouse on Wednesday without speaking to the press.
