POLICY WIRE — London, UK — The Metropolitan Police reported that more than 550 individuals were detained during the Notting Hill Carnival. Tragically, one man died after a pursuit with officers who intercepted him attempting to enter the event.
Authorities noted a significant reduction in serious violence for the second consecutive year. However, proactive stop and search measures resulted in the confiscation of numerous weapons, including a handgun.
In the lead-up to the carnival, 100 arrests were made and several weapons were seized as part of a comprehensive safety operation. This initiative aimed to ensure the security of the large-scale celebration.
On the first day of the 2026 Notting Hill Carnival, 169 arrests were recorded. The offenses varied, encompassing drug and weapon possession, assaults, including attacks on emergency personnel, and sexual offenses.
