POLICY WIRE — New York, USA — A woman was fatally shot by police in the bustling Times Square area of Manhattan after she stabbed two individuals, resulting in one death and one person in critical condition, according to reports.
The incident occurred just before 4:30 p.m. ET on Monday, as the area was crowded with tourists and locals during the evening commute, sources informed the New York Post.
Law enforcement officers fired at the woman after she brandished a knife near a New York City Police Department substation. She was shot after refusing to drop the weapon, as stated by individuals familiar with the situation to The New York Times.
Prior to using their firearms, police attempted to subdue the woman with tasers, but she continued to advance towards them, according to the Post’s sources.
Both the suspect and one of the stabbing victims died at the hospital, while the second victim remains in critical condition. The identities of the suspect and the victims have not been disclosed.
