POLICY WIRE — London, UK — George Michael has been named the greatest music icon of all time by Smooth Radio listeners. The late Wham! star secured the top spot in the station’s annual poll for the fourth year running.

Michael outranked Michael Jackson, who came in second, and British band Queen, who placed third. Whitney Houston and Swedish group Abba followed in fourth and fifth positions, respectively.

George Michael Entertainment, the official estate, expressed their joy: We are thrilled that George has once again been voted Smooth Radio’s ‘ultimate artist’ in the 2026 Icons Top 100. George would have been incredibly proud and grateful for the continued support and love from his fans.

The top 10 also included Sir Elton John, Wham!, Phil Collins, Celine Dion, and Elvis Presley. With Wham!, Michael achieved five UK number one singles and six top 10 albums. His solo career, starting with the album Faith, saw seven UK number one singles and seven number one albums.
