New Girl Fans Face Disappointment as Creator Dismisses Reunion Rumors

POLICY WIRE — City, Country — Fans of the popular TV series New Girl have received disheartening news regarding a potential reunion. Show creator Liz Meriwether has clarified that there are no scripts in development for a comeback.

This announcement follows comments made by Max Greenfield, who portrayed the character Schmidt on the Fox show. Greenfield had previously suggested that a reunion was in the works.

Meriwether, who is currently involved in adapting Britney Spears’s memoir for the screen, told Variety, I don’t even have the scripts written for the things that I need to have scripts written for.

New Girl, which aired from September 2011 to May 2018, centered around the life of Jess, a quirky teacher played by Zooey Deschanel, who shares a Los Angeles loft with three men after a breakup.

The series was both a critical and commercial success, with its pilot episode attracting 10 million viewers in the US.

Despite the show’s conclusion, fans have been vocal about their desire for a reunion. Their hopes were briefly raised when Greenfield appeared on The Today Show and stated, “As far as I know, it’s happening.”

However, Meriwether has since addressed these claims, humorously noting on Instagram that the scripts for a reunion were “pretty good until everybody just started giving me notes on every little thing.”

In a more serious tone, she suggested to Variety that the ongoing dialogue between the cast and herself might be the closest thing to a reunion fans will get.

Greenfield later clarified his statements, mentioning that the cast will indeed gather to receive an award at an upcoming event in Los Angeles.
