Tragic Police Shooting: Father Claims College Student Mistakenly at Wrong House

POLICY WIRE — Upper Pottsgrove Township, Pennsylvania — A 22-year-old college student, Glenwood Pysher IV, was fatally shot by police in Upper Pottsgrove Township after mistakenly approaching the wrong residence, according to his father. The incident occurred as Pysher waited for friends to arrive.

Police in Upper Pottsgrove Township responded to a 911 call about a possible break-in at around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they encountered Pysher at the back of the house and shot him, as stated by the Montgomery County district attorney’s office.

Glen Pysher, the father, explained that his son and friends had visited several bars and split up to spend the night at two different homes. Glenwood took a wrong turn and attempted to enter what he believed was his friend’s house. He was unarmed, carrying only a phone and a backpack with clothing and a few beers.

After startling the homeowner, Pysher sat on the back porch and contacted his friends, who realized his mistake and headed to find him. However, they arrived to see police and emergency vehicles, expecting their friend to be arrested for public drunkenness, only to find out he had been shot.

The father questioned the circumstances of the shooting, noting that his son was on a FaceTime call with friends at 12:32 a.m. and was shot at 12:35 a.m. The Montgomery County Detective Bureau is investigating the incident. Upper Pottsgrove Township Police Chief Al Werner has not released any information, including the names of the officers involved, pending the investigation.

Glenwood Pysher IV was set to begin his senior year at Saint Elizabeth University in New Jersey, with aspirations to become a high school history teacher and coach. His father described him as a kindhearted individual who enjoyed helping others.
