Dallas Airport Abandons Plans for Additional Islamic Ablution Stations Amid Funding Threat

POLICY WIRE — Dallas, USA — Dallas International Airport has rescinded its proposal to install additional Islamic ablution stations in the international terminal, following a threat by the Texas governor to withdraw state funding.

The international terminal currently houses two post-security ablution stations, which were installed in 2019. Airport officials report that these facilities have been operating without incident for several years.

In a statement, Governor Greg Abbott warned that any expansion of these facilities would result in the revocation of state funding for the airport. “We must ensure that public funds are used in a manner that aligns with the values and priorities of our state,” Abbott said.

Airport spokesperson Jennifer Jenkins confirmed the decision, stating, “In light of the governor’s concerns, we have decided to pause our plans for further expansion of the ablution stations.” She added that the existing stations would remain operational.
