DR Congo Transfers 15 Prisoners to M23 Rebels Under Doha Peace Accord

POLICY WIRE — Goma, DR Congo — The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has released 15 prisoners to the M23 rebel group as part of the ongoing Doha peace process. The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) facilitated the transfer, marking the first known exchange of detainees between the Congolese government and the M23 rebels in North Kivu.

The prisoner transfer is a significant step in the peace negotiations aimed at resolving the long-standing conflict in the region. The ICRC, which has been instrumental in mediating the process, confirmed the release — and transfer of the detainees.
