POLICY WIRE — Chengdu, China — A 6-year-old girl from Chengdu, China, has set a new women’s world record for solving a 3×3 Rubik’s Cube, completing the puzzle in just over 4 seconds, according to state media reports.

Lian Yunzhi, known as “Zhizhi,” achieved an average time of 4.27 seconds after completing five solves at two World Cube Association-certified competitions in Wuhan and Guangzhou. This marks the first time a female speedcuber has averaged under 4.5 seconds, as reported by CCTV.

The young prodigy, who began learning the Rubik’s Cube as part of her extracurricular activities, has mastered more than 1,300 solving algorithms through daily practice.
