POLICY WIRE — Chandler, Arizona — A large bee swarm disrupted operations at an Intel manufacturing facility in Chandler, Arizona, on Monday, resulting in three individuals being hospitalized after being stung.

Emergency responders were called to the Ocotillo campus early Monday morning following reports of a person with numerous bee stings and several others affected by the swarm. Ten people received medical attention on-site, with three transported to hospitals in stable condition.

The cause of the bees’ aggression remains unknown. Intel, which originated in the late 1960s and pioneered the first microprocessor, has expanded globally and maintains a major presence in Arizona as its U.S. manufacturing hub. The state has also seen other recent bee-related incidents, including a hiker in Phoenix who was stung over 100 times in April.
