13-Year-Old Boy Dies After Shirt Snags on Playground Slide Screw, Family Claims
A 13-year-old boy died after his shirt became caught on a playground slide screw, according to his mother. Park closed for investigation.
POLICY WIRE — Miami, United States — A 13-year-old boy lost his life after his shirt became entangled on a loose screw inside a playground slide at Shenandoah Park in Miami’s Coral Way neighborhood, his mother said.
The incident occurred on September 25 when Olvin Daniel Cabrera Valladares was playing at the park. A man visiting with his children discovered the boy inside the slide and attempted to pull him free, but the boy remained stuck due to the tight collar of his shirt around his neck, according to his mother, Estefanía Valladares.

Valladares described the moment her son was pulled out: “He pulled again, and my son fell out. His arm was inside of his shirt, and his collar was tight around his neck.” The boy, who was a student at Citrus Grove K-8 Center, was not at school that day. He was later taken to the hospital, where he was declared brain dead on October 1. His family has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral costs, raising over $10,000 as of October 6.
