Zimbabwe Ferry Disaster: Death Toll Rises to 68 as Recovery Efforts Continue

POLICY WIRE — Harare, Zimbabwe — The death toll from the ferry disaster on Lake Kariba in Zimbabwe has risen to 68, according to local authorities. Eighteen children are among the deceased after the overloaded ferry capsized. Rescue teams continue to search for survivors and recover bodies.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa expressed condolences to the families of the victims and called for a thorough investigation. “This is a tragic loss for our nation, especially with so many children among the victims,” he said in a statement.
