Young Adults Comprise Nearly One-Third of New Anxiety-Related Disability Claims
New data reveals teenagers and young adults represent nearly 33% of recent Personal Independence Payment claims linked to anxiety disorders in England.
POLICY WIRE — London, United Kingdom — Recent research indicates that teenagers and young adults now represent nearly one-third of all individuals filing for disability benefits due to anxiety disorders.
The findings highlight a significant demographic trend within the Personal Independence Payment (PIP) system, which serves as the primary financial support for residents in England and Wales living with long-term physical or mental health conditions.
As of July 31, official records show a total of 72,195 individuals receiving PIP with anxiety disorder listed as their primary condition. Among these, 24,681 claimants are categorized within the younger age brackets.
PIP remains accessible to eligible applicants starting at age 16. The benefit is designed to provide support regardless of an individual’s employment status, existing savings, or receipt of other government assistance.
