POLICY WIRE — Richmond, Virginia — A gastroenterologist from Virginia experienced a shocking awakening when she found a live bat inside her mouth.
Dr. Krista Edelman, who practices in Richmond, shared her unusual encounter with WWBT. She explained that while sleeping beside her husband, she had a dream about a “little mouse” attempting to enter her mouth.
Upon waking, Dr. Edelman reached towards her mouth and inadvertently folded the bat’s wings. The couple swiftly captured the animal for animal control officers to conduct rabies tests.
As a precaution, Dr. Edelman received initial doses of preventive rabies vaccine and immunoglobulin. These treatments were halted after tests confirmed the bat was not carrying rabies.
