POLICY WIRE — Washington, DC — The US military confirmed on Saturday the deaths of two American service members and the disappearance of another following an Iranian attack on a base in Jordan. The incident marks the first American troop deaths due to direct Iranian fire since the escalation of hostilities.
The attack, which occurred on Friday, involved Iranian ballistic missiles — and drones. US and partner forces were defending against the assault when the casualties happened, according to a military statement. Four other service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals but have since been discharged.
The identities of the deceased haven’t been disclosed. The search for the missing service member continues.
