POLICY WIRE — LONDON, United Kingdom — US Open runner-up Ben Shelton has withdrawn from the Laver Cup and will be replaced by 16th-ranked Brandon Nakashima on Team World, according to organizers.

No official reason was given for Shelton’s withdrawal, but he is set to compete in the Davis Cup for the United States in the Czech Republic starting Friday, just days after losing to Alexander Zverev in the U.S. Open final.

Nakashima will make his Laver Cup debut, joining Alex de Minaur, Taylor Fritz, Alexander Bublik, Learner Tien, and Francisco Cerundolo on Team World, led by captain Andre Agassi. Team Europe, coached by Yannick Noah, includes Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, Flavio Cobolli, Rafael Jodar, Jakub Mensik, and Casper Ruud. The event is scheduled for September 25-27 at the O2 Arena in London.
