POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — The death toll from a Russian strike on a warehouse near Kyiv has climbed to 38, marking the deadliest attack on Ukraine this year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced the updated figure on social media, with four individuals still unaccounted for.
The strike, which targeted an ammunition storage facility, resulted in massive explosions and fires that ravaged nearby homes and buildings. Emergency services worked tirelessly to extinguish the flames and neutralize explosive devices at the site in the village of Myla. Zelenskyy reported that 20 people were injured, including two children.
Zelenskyy condemned the attack, attributing it to “terrible negligence” for storing explosives close to residential areas. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances leading to the ammunition being kept there.
In response to the attack, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced plans to launch “massive strikes” against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
