Ukraine Strikes: Drones and Missiles Target Saratov Refinery and Oryol Defense Plant
Ukrainian forces launched Neptune missiles and drones against Russian industrial targets, hitting the Saratov refinery and the Proton plant in Oryol.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — Ukrainian defense forces executed a multi-pronged assault against critical Russian industrial and military infrastructure overnight into Saturday, Nov. 7. The operations utilized a combination of precision cruise missiles and drones to target high-value facilities across multiple regions.
In the city of Oryol, Neptune cruise missiles were deployed to strike the JSC Proton-Elektroteks defense plant. The attack resulted in a significant fire that broke out near Building No. 48 of the facility.
Simultaneously, drones were launched in an attack on the Saratov Oil Refinery. The facility owned by Rosneft, which maintains an annual processing capacity of 7 million metric tons, suffered major fires following the drone-borne strikes.
The Proton plant is a vital site for the Russian military, manufacturing components for advanced weaponry including the Iskander-M missile and the Pantsir-S1 air defense system.
The Saratov refinery serves as a critical producer of diesel fuel required for supporting Russian military vehicles. These latest operations follow a drone assault that occurred on Friday which targeted the Afipsky Oil Refinery in Krasnodar Krai.
Monitoring resources including Exilenova+ confirmed the strikes, which are part of a broader campaign by Ukrainian forces aimed at Russian energy and defense assets throughout October.
