Ukraine Reports Starlink and Starshield Speeds Restored to 400 km/h After Week of Throttling
Ukraine confirms Starlink and Starshield satellite services have returned to 400 km/h speeds following a week of restrictive throttling on military operations.
POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — The Starlink satellite communications network and its specialized military counterpart, Starshield, have returned to operational speeds exceeding 400 kilometers per hour, according to statements from Ukraine’s defense leadership on October 24, 2026.
This restoration follows a challenging week during which service restrictions had throttled connection speeds to approximately 161 kilometers per hour. The slowdown had significantly hampered military operations and disrupted communications for defense forces across the region.
As of the morning of October 24, officials confirmed that the systems are once again functioning above the 400 km/h threshold, which is equivalent to roughly 248 miles per hour. Defense Ministry specialists are currently conducting ongoing assessments to determine the full extent of the service recovery and to establish the system’s upper performance limits.
Units within the Ukrainian defense forces have reported that Starshield terminals are successfully operating while in motion, with performance metrics continuing to show improvement. While the service has resumed, questions remain regarding the nature of the previous restrictions and the oversight of the network.
The situation follows recent public claims regarding the restoration of the military communications system. Defense officials continue to monitor the network closely to ensure sustained connectivity for ongoing operations.
