POLICY WIRE — Tokyo, Japan — Typhoon Dolphin made landfall in Japan’s southern Okinawa prefecture, resulting in at least six injuries and widespread power outages. Authorities reported that approximately 39,000 buildings in Kagoshima and over 12,000 in Okinawa were left without electricity.

The storm, categorized as a severe typhoon, brought heavy rainfall — and strong winds to the region. Emergency services are currently assessing the extent of the damage — and providing assistance to affected residents.

Local officials have urged residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel as the typhoon continues to impact the area. Further updates on the storm’s progression — and additional casualties are expected in the coming hours.
