POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — Former U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed renaming artificial intelligence (AI) with more “elegant” alternatives, sparking debate over the terminology used to describe the rapidly advancing technology.
In a post on Truth Social and X, Trump suggested replacing “Artificial Intelligence” with options such as Superior Intelligence, Extreme Intelligence, or Supreme Intelligence. He claimed these terms better reflect the capabilities of the technology and are more “accurate” than the current name.
A poll conducted across both platforms received approximately 300,000 votes, with “Superior Intelligence” receiving the most support in both rounds. “Supreme Intelligence” faced backlash due to its association with the Supreme Court, leading Trump to remove it from the final vote. The remaining two options were closely contested, with “Superior Intelligence” slightly ahead in both polls.

Trump’s proposal comes as industry leaders warn that AI development must be regulated to ensure safety and ethical use. Executives from companies like Anthropic and OpenAI have called for global oversight to monitor advanced AI models before deployment. However, Trump dismissed concerns about AI risks as a “hoax” and pledged to support the industry without restrictions.
“We will not in any way hinder or stifle the Growth of this incredible industry,” he wrote. “Rather, we will cherish it, help it, and watch over it, as it grows! AI is the next Industrial Revolution, or Internet, but will be even larger and more impactful, possibly as much as 25 per cent of our Country’s GDP.”
