Trump Lauds Supporter Who Punched Protester at South Carolina Rally
President Trump praised a rally attendee who struck a heckler in Pendleton, South Carolina, comparing the supporter to boxing legend Evander Holyfield.
POLICY WIRE — Pendleton, South Carolina — President Donald Trump publicly commended a rally attendee who punched a protester during a campaign event held Wednesday night at the T Ed Garrison Arena.
The incident occurred as the president addressed the crowd regarding immigration policy. As the speech was interrupted, cameras captured an older man in a red cap striking a heckler before law enforcement intervened to remove the individual from the venue.
Observing the altercation from the stage, Trump expressed his approval of the supporter’s actions. He compared the man to former boxing champion Evander Holyfield, who was present at the event as a guest speaker.
Trump remarked on the physical appearance of the protester and suggested that the supporter displayed courage by confronting the heckler. He jokingly suggested that the supporter should seek an autograph from Holyfield.
Throughout the evening, the president faced multiple interruptions from protesters. He dismissed these individuals as paid agitators and labeled them as losers, claiming without evidence that they were being disciplined by their parents at home.
The rally was intended to bolster Republican turnout for the upcoming midterm elections. During the event, Trump also campaigned on behalf of Sen. Darline Graham, despite the repeated disruptions to his remarks.
