POLICY WIRE — Isle of Wight, U.K. — A woman in her 50s has died after being pulled into the sea while walking her dog along the eastern coastline of the Isle of Wight. The incident occurred on Monday, Oct. 26, as a powerful storm impacted the region.
The victim was reportedly walking along the seafront between Sandown and Shanklin when a wave struck her, sweeping her into the water. A large-scale search and rescue mission was initiated shortly after 11 a.m. involving police, coastguard units, and an RNLI lifeboat, but her body was recovered approximately one hour later.
Tributes have since emerged for the woman, who has been remembered by those who knew her as a funny, lovely, and wonderful person.
Simultaneously, authorities have suspended the search for a man who was swept into the sea in Scotland by large waves during the same period of severe weather. The two incidents highlight the dangerous conditions caused by the storm that battered Britain this week.
