Thai PM Condemns Foreign Lawbreakers as Crackdown Intensifies
Thai PM Anutin criticizes foreign lawbreakers, announces new measures to curb illegal activities and protect national interests.
POLICY WIRE — Bangkok, Thailand — Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has strongly criticized foreigners who have allegedly violated local laws, calling the situation a clear overstep that undermines national sovereignty and hospitality.
The prime minister’s remarks come amid a growing public backlash against foreign nationals exploiting legal loopholes to acquire land and operate businesses in Thailand. The government has taken steps to limit visa-free stays and expedite deportations of those found guilty of criminal activity.
Anutin emphasized that while Thailand has been welcoming to visitors, it will no longer tolerate exploitation. He specifically addressed cases involving foreign-owned businesses, including a Jewish cemetery, where permits had expired, and a Chinese fugitive attempting to launder money through a fake business registered under a Thai child.
