Tech Giants Meet With Trump to Challenge AI Regulation Plans, Report Says
Tech leaders including Musk and Zuckerberg met with Trump to oppose AI regulation, claiming new oversight is unnecessary. Details emerge.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — High-profile technology executives have reportedly met with former President Donald Trump to express concerns over proposed artificial intelligence regulations, according to recent reports.
Elon Musk, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang are said to have engaged in direct discussions with the U.S. president in recent weeks, aiming to influence his position on AI oversight. The conversations followed a proposal by Google DeepMind’s Demis Hassabis on July 14 for a new regulatory body to oversee AI safety standards.
The initiative was backed by Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, but Musk, Zuckerberg, and Huang reportedly voiced opposition during private Oval Office meetings. Trump has since shared his views on AI regulation through social media, dismissing fears about the technology as a “hoax” orchestrated by traitors. He argued that any regulatory delays could put China at a disadvantage in the global AI race.
Musk, who leads SpaceXAI, suggested that AI companies should collaborate to evaluate each other’s models before public release, arguing that competition would help identify risks. Meanwhile, Huang claimed current laws are sufficient to prevent harmful outcomes from advanced AI systems, despite warnings from industry figures like OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei.
