Secretary of State Rubio Urges End to Ukraine Conflict, Denies Intelligence Sharing Halt
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio calls for an end to the Russia-Ukraine war and clarifies that intelligence sharing with Kyiv remains fully active.
POLICY WIRE — Samarkand, Uzbekistan — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized on Monday that the primary objective for both Ukraine and Russia should be bringing their ongoing conflict to a close.
During his visit to Uzbekistan, Rubio addressed reports suggesting a disruption in cooperation between Washington and Kyiv. He explicitly denied that the United States had suspended intelligence sharing with Ukraine, stating clearly that there has been no pause in the flow of information.
Rubio’s comments follow recent assertions from Kyiv regarding a temporary halt in intelligence support intended to counter Russian missile strikes. In response to these claims, the Secretary of State urged President Volodymyr Zelensky to prioritize efforts toward ending the hostilities.
The Secretary has previously characterized the conflict as a dangerous stalemate. Speaking to reporters in Portugal on Thursday, he noted that the Trump administration does not view a military solution as the path forward and remains committed to pursuing a settlement.
Following a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Rubio suggested that resolving the war will necessitate the introduction of new ideas. He noted that current peace negotiations remain stalled due to significant disagreements over territorial demands and the ongoing risks of escalation.
