POLICY WIRE — Washington, U.S. — Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has pledged that his caucus will move to prevent President Donald Trump from appointing a conservative justice to the Supreme Court once the party regains control.

In a recent interview with AP, the New York Democrat signaled that the Democratic Senate majority intends to oppose any attempt to place a “right winger” individual on the nation’s highest court.

The stance suggests that Democrats may be prepared to block a presidential nominee if a seat becomes vacant during the next two years of the Trump administration.

Schumer’s comments come as the party prepares for a return to the majority, highlighting a firm strategy to counter the president’s judicial influence.
