POLICY WIRE — Kyiv, Ukraine — A Russian aerial bombardment struck the Ukrainian capital overnight, resulting in the death of one woman and causing significant damage to city infrastructure, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The assault targeted a subway station located on the city’s left bank and severely damaged a 25-storey residential high-rise. Beyond the residential impact, the strike also affected various non-residential structures and a local medical facility.
Mayor Klitschko confirmed that 11 people sustained injuries during the incident. This follows an earlier drone offensive on the same day that left three individuals wounded, including an elderly woman.
The mayor noted that this latest aggression represents the first instance in several months where critical infrastructure in Kyiv has been purposefully targeted. Air defense systems were reported to be active across the city starting at 11:32 a.m. local time.
