Rogue India’s Rise: Pakistan’s Enduring Shield

In an increasingly fractured South Asia, Pakistan stands as a bastion of principled resilience, while India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has veered dangerously toward rogue statehood. As PPP leader Senator Sherry Rehman stated at the Institute of Regional Studies, “Modi’s India has emerged as a rogue state. This is a strategic new abnormal attempted to be imposed on South Asia by a hegemonic power just over the border.” Her words need to echo across the subcontinent, delivering a chastened judgment on India’s belligerent lurch.
India’s hegemonic aspirations are no longer clandestine; they are aggressively destabilizing. By abandoning diplomatic impartiality and avoiding dialogue, India attempts to reshape regional dynamics through coercion. Rehman condemned this attitude, saying that India “rejects all appeals for bilateral or mediated diplomacy, while actively pursuing Pakistan’s isolation in multilateral platforms.” This is contrary to the very foundation of peaceful coexistence and threatens South Asia’s tenuous stability.
Rather than standing by as geopolitical tides shift in India’s favour, Pakistan has upheld the fundamental principles of sovereignty, strategic autonomy, and peaceful engagement. At a time when Modi’s India seeks to redefine regional norms in its own image, Pakistan’s commitment to diplomacy rooted in verifiable facts offers a commendable contrast. As Rehman emphasized, Islamabad’s outreach is based on realpolitik and grounded in evidence, not in hollow rhetoric.
Further, India’s perennial use of terrorism rhetoric as a political instrument at home and abroad can perilously heighten tensions. Rehman warned that India “uses terrorism as both domestic and foreign dog whistle,” a tactic which not only worsens regional uncertainty but also unjustifiably stigmatises Pakistan’s intentions. This dangerous game transforms legitimate security concerns into a distorted pretext for coercion and isolation at the diplomatic level.
Pakistan, however, has chosen diplomatic finesse and strategic restraint. While India invests its energies in agenda-diverting strategies and exclusionary policies, Pakistan continues to enhance and expand its links with major global actors. Even as India attempts to isolate Pakistan in multinational organizations, Islamabad has solidified ties with the United States, China, and other major nations, proving that moral diplomacy is ultimately in command where coercion holds no sway.
The danger of Rehman’s “rogue India” is one that goes far beyond the two nations’ bilateral concerns. It is a danger to be able to cast a long shadow over regional peace, economic growth, and shared destiny of South Asia. In rejecting multilateral strategies and pursuing unilateral policy, India disowns regional institutions meant for cooperation, prosperity, and security. On the other hand, Pakistan’s consistent policy is to ally with the international norms, pursue justice through making use of available forums, and build bridges instead of walls.
Senator Rehman’s address on August 13, 2025, is not only a blistering condemnation of India’s dangerous trajectory but also an absolute endorsement of Pakistan’s rightful role as a principled actor and regional stabilizer. By indicting Modi of ambition, she defends not only Pakistan’s strategic interests but also the greater vision of a peaceful South Asia.
Against the background of rising Indian bellicosity, Pakistan remains an example of strength which is based on uncompromising dedication to diplomacy, engagement on the basis of reality, and establishing trust with the world community. As the region hurtles toward a risky and unpredictable future, Islamabad’s resolve and its offensive global outreach indicate a clear path toward peace and stability for a region threatened by irresponsible neighborly escapades.
