Report: Susie Wiles Orchestrated Katie Zacharia’s Contentious Fox News Exit Interview
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles allegedly arranged Katie Zacharia’s rocky Fox News interview before her firing. Get the full details on the fallout.
POLICY WIRE — Washington, D.C. — White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles reportedly played a key role in organizing a difficult television appearance for Katie Zacharia on Fox News just one night before the press secretary was dismissed from her post.
During the Thursday evening broadcast, host Sean Hannity challenged Zacharia regarding her recent press briefing, which he characterized as widely panned, while also questioning the validity of her legal credentials.
An anonymous source familiar with the situation described the prime-time segment as a sanctioned hit against the struggling official. However, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung dismissed these claims as fiction, stating that such speculation is entirely baseless.
Zacharia, 41, was removed from her position on Friday after serving only five days. Her brief tenure was marked by a single 14-minute press briefing that drew significant criticism from both supporters and opponents of the president.
While some insiders alleged that Wiles fed her to Hannity, other officials argued that Zacharia’s own performance during her debut briefing—where she took only three questions and mistakenly referred to her husband as my president—sealed her fate. A senior White House official noted that such tactics are not in line with Wiles’ professional style.
During the seven-minute interview, Hannity pressed Zacharia on her background, confirming she attended Pepperdine Law School but did not pass the bar exam. Zacharia defended her performance by noting she had been in the role for only two days and lacked sufficient preparation time.
The following day, the president told reporters he had advised Zacharia to reconsider her position, and officials later confirmed her termination. Despite the abrupt exit, Zacharia released a statement on X praising the president as a kind and gracious man.
Although rumors have circulated regarding the potential ouster of Wiles, the president stated on Friday that there is zero chance he will replace his chief of staff. A network spokesperson for Fox News added that Hannity maintains full control over his guest selections.
